Vodafone Limited (“Vodafone”) and O2 Telefónica UK Limited (“O2”) today announced that they have agreed to share 5G active equipment, such as radio antennas, on joint network sites across the UK. Vodafone Germany has acquired important radio spectrum for next-generation 5G mobile networks at the Federal Network Agency auction for a total cost of €1.88 billion.  It has secured a valuable 90 MHz in the 3.6 GHz band and 40 MHz of 2100 MHz spectrum.

Vodafone will switch on its 5G network for both consumers and business customers in seven cities across the UK on 3 July 2019. In a worldwide first, Vodafone will also offer 5G roaming in the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain over the summer.

The completion of the 5G frequency auction on 7th March 2019 – and the usage rights acquired – equip T-Mobile Austria with the foundation to expand the 5G communications standard throughout Austria. In this auction, T-Mobile Austria acquired 110 MHz of spectrum throughout the country (11 packages of 10 MHz each in 12 regions), for a total price of €57 million.

Vodafone will launch 5G in 19 towns and cities across the UK during 2019.
