Viettel is the largest mobile network operator in Vietnam. The network is operated by Viettel Group, which is owned by the country's military "Army Telecommunication Industry Corporation". Viettel Group has substantial international operations across Asia and Africa, and some operations in South America.
The company launched 4G LTE services in April 2017 over B3 (1800 MHz) following a two year trial of the technology. LTE-Advanced trials demonstrated 230 Mb/s by aggregating B1 and B3 carriers. Viettel began trialling 2600 MHz LTE in January 2020, with B7 deployments being observed in dense urban areas within the major cities. 4x4 MIMO deployments are widespread on B1 and B3 LTE.
Viettel has been extensively trialling 5G services in Vietnam with a public trial commencing December 2020. Testing has been over n78 (3500 MHz), achieving data rates up to 1.5 Gb/s, and in mid-2021 mmWave through its partnership with Ericsson and Qualcomm, achieving data rates of up to 4.7 Gb/s.
