Company Overview
Telia Eesti is the largest mobile carrier operating in Estonia. The company was founded in April 1991 then as state-owned Estonian Mobile Telecom (EMT), in January 2016 the company along with telecommunications provider Elion were merged under the Telia name becoming Telia Eesti. Telia Eesti is a wholly owned subsidiary of Telia Company.
The company provides 2G GSM services over 900 and 1800 MHz bands, and launched 3G UMTS over B1 (2100 MHz) in April 2006. 3G services were further expanded to HSPA+ in June 2009, following with a B8 (900 MHz) UMTS services activated in June 2010. Telia's 4G LTE service was the first in Estonia with the company launching a B7 (2600 MHz) network in December 2010. This shortly followed with a B3 (1800 MHz) network in April 2011 and a B20 (800 MHz) network in June 2013. LTE-A services were switched on in August 2014 providing peak data rates of 300 Mbps using 2C carrier aggregation of a 20 MHz channel in B3 (1800 MHz) and a 20 MHz channel in B7 (2600 MHz).
June 2016 saw Telia Eesti, in partnership with Ericsson, activate LTE-A Pro achieving in excess of 1 Gbps using 3C carrier aggregation (1 x 20 MHz B3 + 2x 20 MHz B7), 4X4 MIMO, and 256QAM techniques.
Telia Estonia IoT
In December 2018 the company announced it had launched a nationwide NB-IoT network, and announcing Energate as the first company using the service. It is expected that the service operates over B20 (800 MHz).
Telia Estonia 5G
Estonia was named by Telia in October 2016 as one of two countries it planned to implement 5G by 2018. The company achieved its goal when in December 2018 Telia Eesti announced the successful deployment of its 5G NR network in Tallinn. Like other 5G deployments across the Baltic region, Telia Eesti uses n78 (3500 MHz), with Ericsson hardware.
