Nextel acquires frequency of 1800 MHz and will offer 4G in São Paulo

Nextel auctioned on Thursday (17), at an auction held by Anatel, the frequency of 1.8 GHz, which will be used to offer the 4G technology in the capital of São Paulo and Greater São Paulo.

The operator was the only company to provide guarantees and paid R $ 455 million, with a premium of 1.15% over the minimum price established by Anatel.

The acquisition of the 1.8 GHz frequency is part of the strategy to expand and offer new services in São Paulo, in order to consolidate Nextel among the main players in the postpaid segment.

"In Rio de Janeiro, where we have been offering 4G since 2014, the company already holds a 17.7% market share in the postpaid segment (excluding M2M), ranking third. Between January and October of this year, our 4G client base in the state tripled and we now own 25% of this market, winning the vice-leadership. With the offer of fourth-generation technology in São Paulo, where we already have a 9.91% stake, we intend to re-issue the same success story, "celebrates Francisco Valim, president of Nextel.

According to data from Anatel, in October Nextel reached 2.5 million 3G / 4G clients (with 1.8 million iDEN users - radio), totaling 4.3 million customers. Unlike the other companies in the sector, the operator was the only one to register continuous growth in the first ten months of the year, leading in net additions in the postpaid segment, with 949 thousand new customers.

"The biggest beneficiary of a more competitive market is the consumer, who has access to services that are more aligned to their needs and with fair prices," says Valim. "It is also necessary to highlight the excellent work carried out by Anatel, which has structured a regulatory model that encourages competition and the participation of new players, as demonstrated in this auction," he adds.

Flexible plans and quality

In order to consolidate itself in an extremely competitive market such as mobile telephony, Nextel has invested in offering quality services that are fully adjustable to customer needs. In June the operator launched an innovative relationship model based on plans in which voice and data packages, divided into the categories P, M and G, can be freely combined and changed whenever the customer wishes.

In addition to being expressed in the continuous growth of the customer base, the recognition of the services provided by Nextel was pointed out in a survey conducted by O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper in partnership with Blend New Research - HSR. Released at the end of November, Estadão Melhor Serviços appointed Nextel as the best mobile operator in the country.
