Overview

French Polynesia (Polynésie française) is an overseas collectivity of the French Republic. It is composed of 118 geographically dispersed islands and atolls stretching over an expanse of more than 2,000 kilometres in the South Pacific Ocean. Among its 118 islands and atolls, 67 are inhabited. Tahiti is the most populous and well known of the islands.

French Polynesia is not a member of the ITU however as an overseas region of France follows radio frequency harmonisation principles according to ITU-R Region-3. The regulatory body governing communications policy is the Service des Postes et Télécommunications de Polynésie Française, who is also charged with regulating the collectivity's radio frequency spectrum activities such as planning, allocations, and licencing.
