Overview

The Faroe Islands (Føroyar), sometimes called the Faeroe Islands, are an archipelago between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic, about halfway between Norway and Iceland, 320 kilometres north-northwest of Scotland. The islands are an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark.

Faroe Islands is not a member of the ITU, however as a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark (who are a member) it follows radio frequency harmonisation principles according to ITU-R Region-1. The regulatory body governing communications policy is the Fjarskiftiseftirlitid (Telecommunications Authority of the Faroe Islands) who is also charged with regulating the country's radio frequency spectrum activities such as planning, allocations, and licencing.
