Overview

New Caledonia (Nouvelle-Calédonie) is a special collectivity of France in the southwest Pacific Ocean, 1,210 km east of Australia. The archipelago, part of the Melanesia subregion, includes the main island of Grande Terre, the Loyalty Islands, the Chesterfield Islands, the Belep archipelago, the Isle of Pines, and a few remote islets.

As a collectivity of France New Caledonia is not a member of the ITU. However under French jurisdiction, the territory follows radio frequency harmonisation principles according to ITU-R Region-3. The regulatory body governing communications policy is the New Caledonia Postal and Telecommunications Services, who is also charged with regulating the territory's radio frequency spectrum activities such as planning, allocations, and licencing.
