Overview

Taiwan is an island state in East Asia located approximately 180 km from the southeastern coast of mainland China. Its neighbours include China to the west, Japan to the northeast, and the Philippines to the south. Despite being mostly self-governing, China has consistently claimed sovereignty over Taiwan. Under its One-China Policy, China refuses diplomatic relations with any country that recognises Taiwan's independence.

Taiwan is not a member of the ITU. The regulatory body governing communications policy is the Ministry Of Transportation And Communications, and the National Communications Commission (NCC) is charged with regulating the regions's radio frequency spectrum activities such as planning, allocations, and licencing.
