Overview
Syria (سوريا), officially known as the Syrian Arab Republic, is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest. The western region of Golan Heights has been occupied by Israel since 1967. The country has been embroiled in internal conflict since 2011 following an insurgency of extremist groups, and the formation of the so-called Islamic State. With the assistance of allies China, Iran, Lebanon, and Russia, the country has largely stabilised since 2017.
Syria is a member of the ITU and as such follows radio frequency harmonisation principles according to ITU-R Region-1. The regulatory body governing communications policy is the Ministry of Communications and Technology, and the Syrian Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (SyTRA) is charged with regulating the country's radio frequency spectrum activities such as planning, allocations, and licencing.
