Overview
Bahrain (البحرين), officially the Kingdom of Bahrain, is a small Arab constitutional monarchy in the Persian Gulf. It is an island country consisting of a small archipelago centered around Bahrain Island, situated between the Qatar peninsula and the north eastern coast of Saudi Arabia.
Mobile penetration is well above the average penetration in Arab States region and globally. A high level of competition between Bahrain's three telecommunications operators has resulted in significant mobile broadband penetration, which has grown fast and is three times as high as the global and regional averages. According to latest ITU data (June 2017) mobile coverage reaches 100% of the population, and 4G LTE also accessible by 100% of Bahraini citizens.
Bahrain is a member of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and as such follows radio frequency harmonisation principles according to ITU-R Region-1. The regulatory body governing communications policy is the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), and the Directorate of Wireless Licensing, Frequency and Monitoring is charged with regulating the country's radio frequency spectrum activities such as planning, allocations, and licencing.
