Coupling Mechanism

FME "For Mobile Equipment", RF connectors are a simple, low cost UHF band series connector offering acceptable performance up to 3 GHz. They are also known as SAP connectors and are easily identified by their unusual interfacing, whereby the female jack body contains the coupling nut. The series uses a M8 x 0.75 interfacing thread. FME has not been standardised by any international body.

History

Due to their limited usage, history of the development of the FME connector is not known. 

Applications

FME are typically only found in automotive UHF applications as their small outside diameter and mechanical durability allows routing through the vehicle interior without serious damage. Due to otherwise poor electrical characteristics above 200 MHz, their usage should be limited where possible.
