Company Overview

Zain Iraq is the largest mobile carrier operating in Iraq. The company was established in 2007 following the purchase of Iraqna (operating since 2003) by the Zain Group. Iraqna was merged with MTC Atheer to form Zain today as we know it.

While partially listed on the ISX (Iraqi Stock Exchange) via holding company Al-Khatem, the company remains a subsidiary of the Zain Group, a mobile telecommunications company founded in 1983 in Kuwait as MTC (Mobile Telecommunications Company), later rebranded as Zain in 2007. Zain has a commercial presence in eight countries across the Middle East with over 46 million active customers.

Zain Iraq provides 2G GSM services over the 900 MHz band, and launched 3G UMTS services in January 2015 over the B1 (2100 MHz) band.
