Smart Axiata Co., Ltd., known locally as Smart, is a leading mobile telecommunications company of Cambodia, currently serves over 8 million subscribers under the “Smart” brand. Smart Axiata is part of Axiata Group Berhad, one of the largest telecommunications groups in Asia with over 300 million customers across 10 countries.
The company provides standard 2G GSM services over 900 MHz, and 3G UMTS over B1 (2100 MHz) providing up to 21 Mbps DL data rate over HSPA+. In January 2014, Smart launched its 4G LTE network over the B3 (1800 MHz) band to become the first mobile operator in Cambodia to provide true 4G services. In September 2016, Smart launched '4G+' LTE Advanced using Carrier Aggregation advising data rates up to 200 Mbps, aggregating with a B1 (2100 MHz) LTE service.
In August 2017 the company announced LTE-A network upgrades supporting peak data rates of up to 600 Mbps through 4X4 MIMO and 256QAM modulation.
Smart announced it was trialling 5G in Phnom Penh in July 2019 through its partnership with Huawei.
The company announced it would begin shutting down its 3G network during 2021.
