Company Overview

Econet Leo, formerly known as Spacetel Burundi, is the largest mobile carrier operating in Burundi. The company is a fully owned subsidiary of Econet Wireless Africa after purchase from Global Telecom Holding in October 2014. Econet Wireless Africa itself is a subsidiary of global telecoms giant Econet, with operations in Africa, Europe, South America, North America, and the East Asia Pacific Rim.

The company operates standard 2G GSM services over 900 and 1800 MHz, and launched 3G UMTS services in July 2011. In March 2017 Econet Leo switched on 4G LTE over the B3 (1800 MHz) band initially in the capital Bujumbura and slowly being rolled out across the nation.
