Company Overview

Digicel British Virgin Islands is a subsidiary of Jamaica-based Digicel Group. The company began operations in British Virgin Islands in 2008.

Digicel BVI operates 2G GSM over 1900 MHz, and 3G UMTS over B2 (1900 MHz). After being awarded additional spectrum in 2016 the company launched 4G LTE over B4 (1700 MHz) and B13 (700 MHz) in January 2017. In August 2018 the company announced it had doubled the capacity of its LTE network. While Digicel BVI has sufficient spectrum to implement B2 and B3 (2x15 each), it is speculated that the upgrade has involved LTE-A.

Digicel is a mobile phone network provider operating in 31 markets across the Caribbean, Central America, and Oceania regions. The company is owned by the Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, is incorporated in Bermuda, and based in Jamaica. It has about 14 million wireless users.
