BTC Bahamas, also known as the Bahamas Telecommunications Company, is the primary telecommunications provider in the Bahamas, offering telephone, internet and wireless services. It was incorporated in 1966 as a quasi-governmental corporation, initially known as Batelco, and transitioned to the initialism BTC in 2002. The company is partly owned by the Government of the Bahamas and Cable & Wireless Communications, with a share structure of 49% economic shares/49% voting shares and 49% economic shares/51% voting shares respectively. The remaining 2% economic shares are held in a national trust. In 2011, the Government of The Bahamas and Cable & Wireless Communications signed a document that privatised BTC and transferred 51% of the public corporation to the London-based company. However, in 2014, a 2% share of the company, and controlling interest in BTC, was transferred back to the Government.

BTC 4G Network

Planning began on the country's first 4G network in 2011 and was finally activated in February 2014 on the B17 (700 MHz) LTE band commonly in use by providers in the United States. B4 (1700 MHz) AWS LTE was later launched after securing additional spectrum in late 2014.
