Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) was established in 1981 is the principal telecommunications company in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The company is headquartered in Bahrain and is listed on the Bahrain Bourse.
The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of solutions for the residential, business and government segments in Bahrain, including all IP fixed and 4G LTE wireless broadband networks, and MPLS based regional data solutions.
Batelco operates a 2G GSM service over 900 MHz and launched 3G services on B1 (2100 MHz) in December 2007, upgraded to DC-HSPA+ in June 2012. In February 2013 the company switched on its 4G LTE network over B3 (1800 MHz). Batelco announced plans for LTE-A, marketed as 4G+, in June 2016 however the rollout is ongoing. In partnership with Ericsson the company recently conducted 5G trials in a real world environment over a live network, including testing speed, latency and beam steering, with ‘record speeds’ of 25 Gbps achieved.
