Overview

Grenada (La Grenade) is an island country in the southeastern Caribbean Sea consisting of the island of Grenada and six smaller islands at the southern end of the Grenadines island chain. It is located northwest of Trinidad and Tobago, northeast of Venezuela and southwest of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Grenadian telecommunications industry has been steadily developing, following heavy investment from the two mobile network operators in developing mobile broadband services. According to latest ITU data (June 2017) 3G mobile coverage reaches an estimated 81.9% of the population, 4G LTE however is not yet available.

Grenada is a member of the ITU and as such follows radio frequency harmonisation principles according to ITU-R Region-2. The regulatory body governing communications policy is the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC), and the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) is charged with regulating the country's radio frequency spectrum activities such as planning, allocations, and licencing. Like most Caribbean countries, local regulators collaborate with the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL), which provides guidelines and helps to represent regional interests.
