Lithuania, situated in Northern Europe, is a relatively small country with a population of approximately 2.8 million people dispersed across its 65,300 square kilometres. The population is primarily urbanised, with around 68% residing in urban areas, primarily in the capital, Vilnius, and other major cities such as Kaunas and Klaipeda. Lithuania boasts a robust telecommunications infrastructure, having completely digitised its telephone network. The country is ranked among the top in the world for internet speeds, with a strong emphasis on fibre-optic networks. Lithuania has a distinctive focus on technology and innovation; it has the highest number of individuals working in the ICT sector in the EU. The country also has a growing renewable energy sector, primarily in wind power, with the goal of producing 80% of its energy from renewable sources by 2050. Despite its size, Lithuania presents extensive opportunities and potential challenges in the technology, telecommunications and renewable sectors, with these industries in a mature and innovative state.
