Vodafone Romania is a major mobile network operator providing telecommunications services in Romania. The company was founded in 1997 as Connex GSM, becoming Vodafone-Connex in November 2005 following the company's acquisition by Vodafone Group. Vodafone Romania is today a wholly owned subsidiary of Vodafone Group plc. Vodafone became the majority stakeholder after it brought 79% of Mobifon's shares from Canadian-owned Telesystems International Wireless, the previous majority shareholder.
Vodafone RO 5G
Vodafone Romania activated its first 5G base stations on 15th May 2019, advertised as Supernet 5G. The service was initially launched in Bucharest, with roll-outs to other major centres planned shortly after. Vodafone Romania currently owns paired 20 MHz of FDD 3.5 GHz spectrum (3420 to 3440 MHz, and 3520 to 3540 MHz). It is speculated that the network uses at least one of the blocks to provide a TDD n78 (3500 MHz) service.
