Company Overview

Orange is the largest mobile network operator in Mali. The state-owned telecoms provider Sonatel began building the country's second mobile network under the brand Ikatel in August 2002. Ikatel was partially purchased by Orange Group in November 2006, with Orange reporting ownership of around 29.65%.

The company provides 2G GSM services over 900 MHz and 3G UMTS over B1 (2100 MHz). 4G LTE services began around March 2018 after Orange group secured a universal operating licence for €152 million. Orange Mali advises that it uses LTE-A marketed as 4G+ which includes TDD-LTE using RAN hardware supplied by Huawei. The network is speculated to comprise B3 (1800 MHz) and B38 (2600 MHz), although confirmation has not been provided.
