Company Overview
Vodafone Ghana is a major mobile network operator servicing Ghana. Formed following the privatisation of incumbent telecommunications provider Ghana Telecom, the company has a history dating back to 1974. In July 2008 it was announced that Vodafone Group had agreed to acquire a 70% stake in the company, with the Ghanian government to maintain 30% ownership. Following the acquisition, Vodafone rebranded Ghana Telecom and its mobile network subsidiary OneTouch as Vodafone Ghana.
The company provides 2G GSM services over the 900 MHz band, and launched 3G UMTS in 2010 with HSPA+ data. Vodafone Ghana commercially activated 4G LTE in January 2014 over the B3 (1800 MHz) band. The company secured additional 4G spectrum in the B20 (800 MHz) band in September 2018 and in January 2019 announced its intention to deploy a 5 MHz LTE carrier.
