Company Overview

Skytel is a mobile carrier operating in Mongolia utilising GSM and CDMA based technologies. The company was founded in 1999 and was a joint venture between private Mongolian and Korean firms until December 2010 when it became a 100% national enterprise with equal shareholders of Altai Holding and Shunkhlai Group.

Skytel launched 3G UMTS services over B1 (2100 MHz) band in 2009, upgrading the network to HSPA+ in 2010 supporting data rates up to 21 Mbps. 3G+ services were upgraded nationally throughout 2013 and 2014.

The company received 4G LTE licences in the B3 (1800 MHz) band in 2016, and launched its 75 Mbps service in June 2018. Currently 4G LTE service is limited to the capital. All other areas of the country are served by Skytel's CDMA-850 (850 MHz) network.
