Two radio cells in T-Mobile Austria’s network are already showcasing the future of communications. The systems in Innsbruck are the first in Austria and among the first in Europe to operate largely according to the new 5G standard.

EE, part of BT Group, today unveiled a new 4G home broadband solution which could connect 580,000 homes across the UK, especially those in rural areas that are currently only able to access broadband slower than 10Mbps. The service will provide customers with superfast broadband speeds at home using the power of EE’s 4G network.

Today, Salt and Nokia successfully showcased how the fifth generation of mobile technology (5G) will enable new applications and business cases, such as virtual and augmented reality, driverless cars and remotely controlled road convoys as well as the seamless automatization of complex production and service processes for mobile customers in Switzerland.

France’s mobile carriers are planning to spend more than €3 billion on the deployment of 4G LTE networks in underserved areas across the country to eliminate coverage gaps by 2020, according to Julien Denormandie, French junior minister for territorial cohesion.

Together with technology partner Nokia, A1 presented another major evolutionary step on the way to 5G: for the first time, data transmission in Vienna of 1.5 Gigabit / s was achieved in the A1 network.
