At the TIM laboratories based in Turin, the first OTA (Over the Air) connection trials compliant with the 3GPP 5G NR (New Radio) Release 15 specifications featuring Ericsson’s technology, using the Massive MIMO solution, were completed.

After the award of the new frequencies, Vodafone Spain has begun the pre-commercial deployment of the first nodes of its 5G NSA network in central areas of Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Seville, Valencia, Bilbao and Malaga. 

Vodafone Spain has acquired 90 MHz of contiguous spectrum in the 3700 MHz band for mobile data services in the Economic Ministry’s auction for a total cost of €198.1 million.  The fee will be paid by 20 equal annual instalments at a 2.35% interest rate.

Hrvatski Telekom, the forerunner of digitalisation and digital transformation in Croatia, has unveiled the new Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) network technology. The technology is intended for devices that do not require continuous network connection and that send extremely small amounts of data with no need for SMS, MMS, or voice communication.

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has completed the deployment of the first cellular NB-IoT clusters in the COSMOTE 4G network in eleven Greek cities and hotspots, to support emerging mMTC (massive Machine Type Communications) use cases.

Ericsson upgrades part of the COSMOTE LTE network with software that supports NB-IoT technology, enabling massive IoT use cases.

The demo, conducted on 28 GHz band on millimeter waves, resulted in a download speed of 23.4 Gbps, the fastest connection to date using this technology in an urban context. Vodacom’s first commercially available Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network is now operational in Gauteng. Vodacom is the first South African and one of the first African mobile network operators to announce the commercial availability of its NB-IoT network.
