Espoo, Finland - Nokia has been selected by Brazilian power distributor Elektro, part of the Neoenergia/Iberdrola group, to deploy a private LTE network to increase the reliability and efficiency of the electrical grid in the City of Atibaia and surrounding areas in the state of Sao Paulo.

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Argentina is preparing to auction 90 MHz of 4G spectrum to mobile telephone and internet companies in a process that has already attracted interest from Telecom Argentina SA, Telefonica SA and Claro, a government source told Reuters.

The 4.5G network is the first network intended for commercial use in Brazil, and is expected to be the largest in the Latin America Region.

Brazilian operator Algar Telecom completed the refarming of the band from 1800 MHz to 4G, an idea that had been formalized by the end of 2015 . The 10 MHz previously saved for 2G were compressed at 5 MHz and the other half was used for LTE.

WND, the Latin American operator of Sigfox technology, begins the commercial operation of its IoT network in free frequency in August, with coverage of 50% of the population.

The government of Bolivia has assigned spectrum for the provision of LTE services to state-run telco Entel and Tigo. According to a document from telecoms watchdog ATT, the government awarded two blocs of spectrum in the 700 MHz band.

In late February, as Convergencialatina informed, the country surrendered 1900 MHz spectrum for mobile services, a fact that surprised the market due to the long wait of operators (since 1999 there was no tender in the country) and compliance -not everyone expected – of at least one part of the frequency allocation schedule.
