Company Overview

Vodacom Congo (RDC), branded as Vodacom, is the largest mobile carrier operating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The company entered the mobile services market in 2001 with the launch of GSM cellular services. Vodacom operates as a subsidiary of South African Vodacom Group, who hold a 51% controlling stake in the company, the remainder held by Congolese Wireless Networks s.p.r.l.

Vodacom provide 2G GSM services over the 900 and 1800 MHz bands, and in October 2012 launched 3G UMTS (HSPA+) over B1 (2100 MHz). The company is currently refarming its WiMAX services to B42 (3500 MHz) TDD 4G LTE. Following the refresh of the RDC Telecommunication Act in May 2018 the company officially announced the launch of 4G LTE services.
