Overview

Avea Iletisim Hizmetleri A.S., branded as Türk Telekom, is a mobile carrier operating in Turkey. The company was founded in 2000 as Aria, to become Avea from 2004 to 2016 after merging with Türk Telekom's Aycell. Following the privatisation of formerly state-owned Türk Telekom, and a series of restructures the company is now majority owned (approx. 81%) by Türk Telekom, and the remainder owned by İş Bankası. Avea rebranded to Türk Telekom in January 2016 to reflect ownership of its primary shareholder.

The company has provided 2G GSM services over 1800 MHz, and began 3G UMTS over B1 (2100 MHz) in July 2009. 3G services were upgraded to DC-HSPA+ in December 2010. As with its competitors, Türk Telekom launched 4G LTE-A Pro using 4X4 MIMO; 256QAM; and 3C CA over B3 (1800 MHz), B7 (2600 MHz), and B8 (900 MHz). LTE TDD services are also provided over a 15 MHz carrier of B38 (2600 MHz)
