Company Overview

Telekom Networks Malawi, often abbreviated to TNM, is a mobile network operator servicing Malawi. The company was founded in 1995 as a joint venture between Telekom Malaysia and local fixed infrastructure provider Malawi Telecommunications Limited. In April 2007 Telekom Malaysia sold its 60% majority stake in TNM to become a wholly Malawi-owned enterprise. TNM is listed on the Malawi Stock Exchange under symbol TNM.

The company has provided 2G GSM services over the 900 and 1800 MHz bands since inception in 1995, and B1 (2100 MHz) 3G UMTS since December 2009. To provide extended rural coverage, a B8 (900 MHz) service was launched in April 2018.

4G LTE was commercially launched over B41 (2500 MHz) in June 2016, upgraded to LTE-A in September 2017. TNM advises its "4.5G" network is capable of providing peak DL data rates of 100 Mbps.
