Alpha Telecom Mali, operating as Telecel Mali became the country's third mobile network operator in January 2018 after some initial delays. Alpha Telecommunication is part of an African group whose origins go back to the 1970s. The Group is now a major economic player in the telecommunications, transport, distribution, hotel, insurance and security sectors. The Planor group is present in Mali through Alpha Télécommunication (100% stake) in Burkina Faso with Telecel Faso (100% stake) and Côte d'Ivoire with MTN (26% stake).
The company has provided 2G GSM services over 900 and 1800 MHz and 3G UMTS over B1 (2100 MHz) since February 2018.
