Since its inception in 1998, MTN Swaziland has developed to become one of Swaziland's most successful and prominent businesses. MTN Swaziland is a telecommunications partner that is a subsidiary of MTN Group. The geographical network coverage was last measured at 96% and population coverage is at 98%. Swazi MTN is a Swazi company and its shareholding structure stands as follows: SPTC–41%; MTN Group–30%; Esteemed Shareholder–10%; Swaziland Empowerment Limited–19%.
The company provided 2G GSM services over the 900 MHz band since November 1998, and began providing 3G UMTS services over B1 (2100 MHz) in October 2011. Despite its substantial 2100 MHz spectrum holdings the company reportedly only provides HSPA data services. According to its social media accounts, Swazi MTN launched 4G LTE around July 2016. The network uses B3 (1800 MHz) with a 20 MHz carrier.
