Company Overview
MTN Côte d’Ivoire is one of the largest mobile carriers operating on the Ivory Coast. The company was established in July 2005 following South African group MTN International (then M-Cell) acquiring Loteny Telecom's (Telecel) mobile phone license who had been providing GSM services in the country since 1996.
MTN provides 2G GSM services over the 900 MHz band, and launched 3G UMTS services over B1 (2100 MHz) in December 2012. 4G LTE was launched over B20 (800 MHz) in early 2016 when MTN began shifting customers off its 2500 MHz WiMAX service due to licencing concerns.
