3G UMTS Frequency Bands
Mobiltel EAD trading as Mtel (Мтел) (formerly known as Mobitel (Мобилтел)) is a leading mobile carrier in Bulgaria, founded in March 1994. The telecom offers its services to more than 4.1 million customers. Mtel plays an important role as a driving force for the economy and society in Bulgaria with more than 3.5 billion BGN investments since the company’s incorporation. Mtel provides mobile and fixed voice services, broadband Internet, DTH service and IPTV.
After acquiring Blizoo in 2015, Mtel became the largest company in Bulgaria in terms of fixed internet clients and the second largest in terms of number of TV clients. This, as well as the leading position of Mtel on the mobile market, establishes the company as a leader in the telecommunications sector in Bulgaria. The company is part of Telekom Austria Group, itself a subsidiary of America Movil.
The company operates 2G services over 900 MHz, and 3G UMTS DC-HSPA+ services over B1 (2100 MHz). The company launched its 4G LTE service in April 2016 over a 15 MHz channel in the B3 (1800 MHz) band. LTE-A began in April 2016 with the investigation of 4X4 MIMO to boost peak DL rates to 260 Mbps over the single 15 MHz B3 carrier. LTE-A 2C was implemented December 2017, aggregating a new B1 (2100 MHz) LTE carrier with its existing B3 (1800 MHz) service.
A first for Bulgaria, Mtel demonstrated 5G in February 2018, achieving peak data rates of 2.2 Gbps.
