Mobily, officially known as Etihad Etisalat Company, is a major telecommunications company based in Saudi Arabia. Founded in 2004, the company was the result of a consortium led by Etisalat, the UAE based telecom conglomerate, which holds a significant stake in the company. Mobily was the first Saudi communications company to get an operation license for 3G services and beyond. In addition to its domestic operations, Mobily has a vast global presence due to its ownership structure and strategic partnerships.

3G Network

2G GSM was provided over 900 MHz, and 3G UMTS launched June 2006. The 3G network was upgraded to HSPA+ in January 2010 and later to DC-HSPA+. A UMTS900 (Band 8) service was implemented in 2010.

    4G Network

    Mobily first launched 4G LTE services via its Bayanat brand in September 2011 over B38 (2600 MHz) TDD. B3 (1800 MHz) FDD LTE was commercially activated in January 2013, intially using a 5 MHz channel. The company implemented LTE-Advanced Pro, using 4X4 MIMO in August 2016. After securing an additional 2x5 MHz of 1800 MHz spectrum in June 2017, Mobily was able to increase its B3 channel width to increase network capacity and data rates.

      5G Network

      Mobily began testing 5G in partnership with Ericsson early in 2018, achieving data rates in excess of 1 Gbps. The network was commercially launched in 2019.
