Company Overview

Viettel (Cambodia) Pte. Ltd trading as Metfone, is the largest mobile carrier operating in Cambodia. As the name suggests the company is a subsidiary of Vietnamese government (military) owned Viettel Global. The company became the largest carrier in Cambodia after purchasing rival Beeline in March 2015, which saw a transfer of all assets, licences, and customers to the Metfone brand.

The company began operations in February 2009 initially providing 2G GSM services over 900 and 1800 MHz, and switched on 3G UMTS in January 2010 over B1 (2100 MHz). Metfone launched commercial 4G LTE services over 10 MHz of the B3 (1800 MHz) band in June 2016. 4G LTE is also provided over a 5 MHz wide B5 (850 MHz), and a 10 MHz channel of B7 (2600 MHz) in some provinces.

In May 2018 Metfone upgraded its network to LTE-Advanced using CA_3C aggregation to deliver peak data rates up to 100 Mbps.
