Company Overview

Alfa Telecom CJSC trading as MegaCom, is the largest mobile carrier operating in Kyrgyz Republic covering over 99% of the population and with over three million subscribers.

The company was founded in 2004 and launched GSM services in December 2005 over standard 900 and 1800 MHz bands. The company later launched 3G UMTS services in January 2012 over B1 (2100 MHz), upgrading to DC-HSPA+ in January 2014 to provide data rates up to 42 Mbps.

MegaCom activated 4G LTE services in March 2016 over the B3 (1800 MHz) and B20 (800 MHz) bands, adding further B1 (2100 MHz) services in December 2016 to support LTE carrier aggregation. 

The company added B8 (900 MHz) 3G UMTS services to the mix in January 2017.

News & Developments

MegaCom became the winner of the first electronic trading in the history of Kyrgyzstan in the form of an auction for the right to use radio frequencies in the 1800 MHz band. This will allow the company to expand existing GSM and LTE networks throughout the country.
