Company Overview
MagtiCom is the largest mobile carrier operating in Georgia. The company began operations in February 1996, launching its first GSM mobile network in September 1997. MagtiCom was founded by Dr George Jokhtaberidze, who retains a majority ownership in the company to this day, the remainder being owned by ITC Cellular LLC and Geostone Management Limited.
The company operates 2G GSM services on 900 and 1800 MHz bands, and in 2006 launched 3G services over the B1 (2100 MHz) band, later upgraded to HSPA in 2009. 3G is also reportedly provided over the B8 (900 MHz) band. MagtiCom was the first provider to launch 4G LTE in Georgia which it began providing in February 2015 over the B3 (1800 MHz) band. After securing additional spectrum in the 800 MHz band, the company switched on LTE-A in June 2016 aggregating B3 (1800 MHz) with B20 (800 MHz) offering peak data rates up to 185 Mbps.
In August 2018 the company announced the launch of a 4X4 MIMO LTE-Advanced network, using 30 MHz CA_3C aggregation to provide peak data rates up to 430 Mbps.
