Inwi, previously known as Wana, is a key player in the telecommunications sector in Morocco. It was established in Casablanca in 1999 by Karim Zaz as Wanadoo Maroc. In 2004, following the withdrawal of France Telecom, the company was sold to local investors, Attijariwafa Bank and Caisse de dépôt nationale via its subsidiary, Fipar holding. In 2005, ONA became the majority shareholder of the company, which was then known as Maroc Connect. In 2007, Maroc Connect rebranded to Wana and in 2009, it won the third GSM license in Morocco under its new brand, Inwi.
Ownership of Inwi underwent a significant change in 2009, when the Kuwaiti consortium Zain/Alajial acquired a 31% stake in the company. The company is now a subsidiary of SNI Group, a Moroccan investment company, and the Kuwaiti group Zain. Inwi has grown since its inception and has established a strong presence in the Moroccan market, with its network covering more than 92% of the country's territory.

4G Network
The company launched its 4G network in June 2015. In August 2018 Inwi upgraded its 4G network to LTE-A Pro, switching on 4X4 MIMO and 256QAM technologies to bring peak data rates to 1 Gbps.

5G Network
Inwi began pre-commercial 5G testing in April 2019, alongside announcing a build-out of its 5G backhaul infrastructure. The Moroccan government regulator is considering the release of the 3400 to 3600 MHz band for 5G services.
