Geocell (ჯეოსელი) is the second largest mobile carrier operating in Georgia. The company began operating in 1996, launching Georgia's first mobile network in March 1997. Initially a joint venture between Turkish and Georgian investors, Geocell was purchased by Telia Company (then TeliaSonera), via Fintur Holdings in 2007, and became a majority owned subsidiary by February 2009. Telia exited Georgia in January 2018, divesting ownership in Geocell to local telecommunications operator Silknet JSC.
The company operates 2G GSM services on 900 and 1800 MHz bands, and in December 2006 launched 3G services over the B1 (2100 MHz) band, later upgraded to HSPA+ in 2012. 4G LTE services were launched in March 2015 over the B3 (1800 MHz) band.
