Company Overview
Freedom Mobile (previously known as Wind), is the fourth largest mobile carrier operating in Canada. The company was founded in 2008 as Wind Mobile and is operated by Shaw Communications (NYSE/TSX: SJR) after purchasing the carrier from Globalive in 2016.
The network is limited in size, providing 3G UMTS services over B4 (1700 MHz), and 4G LTE over B4 (1700 MHz) and B7 (2600 MHz). As a large country spectrum licences are not consistent across provinces, additional deployments of B66 (1700 MHz) and B13 (700 MHz) are reported. 4G data rates up to 275 Mbps are achievable over the network's LTE-A 2C 4X4 MIMO deployment. B13 (700 MHz) commercial implementation was confirmed October 2018.
