Company Overview

Fido is a mobile carrier operating in Canada. The company was originally launched by Microcell Solutions Inc. in 1996, and is now a subsidiary of Rogers Communications after its acquisition in November 2004. Despite Rogers Communications providing mobile services via its Rogers Wireless brand, Fido remains a separate entity with its independent network infrastructure, although network sharing agreements are in place. The company is not considered an MVNO.

The company operates 2G GSM services over the 1900 MHz band, and 3G UMTS (HSPA+) services over B2 (1900 MHz) and B5 (850 MHz). Fido launched its LTE network in July 2012, with frequency bands harmonised to that of Rogers (B4 (1700 MHz), B7 (2600 MHz), and B17 (700 MHz)) to ensure seamless roaming between the partner networks.
