4G LTE Frequency Bands
Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba (ETECSA) is the sole government-backed telecommunications company operating in Cuba. ETECSA brands its mobile services division as Cubacel and provides a national 2G GSM network over the 900 MHz band, and launched a national 3G UMTS network over the B8 (900 MHz) band in April 2017. B1 (2100 MHz) 3G services have since been added to the network.
In November 2017 ETECSA announced its intentions to begin 4G LTE trials, utilising spectrum in the 1800 MHz band, as well as frequencies in the 700 MHz range for more remote locations. Cubacel launched B3 (1800 MHz) LTE in January 2019, with a 20 MHz channel width and using a combination of Ericsson and Huawei base station hardware. 700 MHz LTE rollout will commence following the deactivation of analogue television services currently occupying 698 to 806 MHz in Cuba.
