Company Overview

Claro is the third largest mobile carrier operating in Chile. Claro began operations as Smartcom PCS, rebranding to Claro in mid-2006 following its acquisition by América Móvil in August 2005. Claro Chile is a subsidiary of América Móvil S.A.B. de C.V, an international telecommunications group with operations in a range of countries throughout South America.

The company provides 2G GSM services over 1900 MHz band, and launched 3G UMTS services over B2 (1900 MHz) in November 2007. The 3G network was upgraded to support HSPA+ in 2011. Claro launched Chile's first 4G LTE network in June 2013 over the B7 (2600 MHz) band, and upgraded to LTE-A (branded 4G LTE+) in October 2016 using 2C carrier aggregation with a new B28 (700 MHz) network.
