Hong Kong is the main location for the firm’s Finance and Research departments, additionally it operates as an important gateway for personnel charged with working collaboratively alongside many of Halberd Bastion’s vendors, particularly those located in mainland China and Taiwan.  Much of the company’s data analysis, market research, hedging, investing and finance negotiations takes place in Hong Kong.

Information about Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China, which resumed ownership of the territory after the British handover in 1997.  As an autonomous territory Hong Kong maintains a separate political and economic system from China including its own currency; the Hong Kong dollar (HKD), pegged to the US dollar it is one of the top ten most traded currencies in the world.  A global city and one of the Four Asian Tigers the city experienced an extremely high growth rate that has resulted in a developed and powerful economy.

When including Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island, the Kowloon Peninsula and the New Territories, with the 262 outlying islands the total area of the territory is around 1 105 square kilometres.  Historically a key geographical feature of Hong Kong is Victoria Harbor which has long been renowned for its deep-water harbours and to this day still proves valuable for shipping operations.  The climate is humid subtropical and temperatures vary from below 10°C in winter and exceeding 31°C during summer.

The population of Hong Kong is circa 7.3 million, over 90% of which are ethnic Chinese.  There is a significant number of expatriate professionals that reside in Hong Kong for business.  The main languages used are Cantonese, English and Mandarin.  Residents of Hong Kong have some of the highest life expectancy in the world.

The culture of Hong Kong is a mix of Eastern and Western with the Chinese territory blending with influences from its time as a British colony which is especially evident in the city’s cuisine.
